Larry Groce performs on Mountain Stage, recorded live at the Culture Center Theater in Charleston, W.Va. It's been a long time since the Mountain Stage host and founder last performed a full set of music on the show — and even longer since he's recorded and released an album. But both of these things have happened in 2016.
Live Forever, Groce's first release in 27 years, is a collection of original songs and covers that originally began with an intended audience of two: his young daughters, Virginia and Bonnie. The project soon took on a life all its own, with members of Groce's musical family coming on board: His wife, Sandra Groce, plays viola; high-school classmate Ray Wylie Hubbard provides duet vocals; Mountain Stage band members Michael Lipton and Bob Thompson are on guitar and piano; and album producer Don Dixon also plays bass and percussion. Groce performs with many of them here, and Robert Earl Keen steps in for Hubbard during the title song, "Live Forever."
