Lady Ella: A Jonathan Schwartz Tribute

Friday, February 07, 2014

In June of 1996, the world lost a phenomenal talent. At the age of 76, after a long battle with diabetes, Ella Fitzgerald passed away at her home in Beverly Hills. Soon after her death, the international jazz community erupted in tribute. In New York, Jonathan Schwartz gathered together friends of Ella Fitzgerald to celebrate her life and music.

Originally broadcast on WQEW in July of 1996, this hour-long tribute is full of remembrances and performances of her favorite songs. Join Jonathan Schwartz, Wesla WhitfieldAnne Hampton Callaway, and the late Kenny Rankin as they celebrate the "First lady of Jazz".
