Trumpeter Keyon Harrold first came to wider attention by taking on the unenviable task of playing Miles Davis’s music, as if he were Miles Davis. That was in the Don Cheadle film Miles Ahead. Since then Harrold has forged his own path, not just in jazz but in the wider world of contemporary music. His own recordings include the sounds of R&B, hip hop, Afrobeat, and soul, and his vocal guests have included singers like Laura Mvula and rappers like Common. Keyon Harrold plays at the Blue Note on July 27-28.
