Jim Campilongo: An Eclectic And Versatile Guitarist

Jim Campilongo.

As Soundcheck host John Schaefer once put it, guitarist and composer Jim Campilongo "has done everything you can do with a guitar." That might be a slight exaggeration, but it's not far off -- throughout his long career, Campilongo has experimented with rock, jazz and country styles; formed acoustic and electric projects; and performed as both a bandleader and alongside vocalists like Norah Jones and John McCrea of Cake.

On his 10th album, called Dream Dictionary, Campilongo leads a trio -- made up of bassist Chris Morrissey and drummer Josh Dion -- through an eclectic and inventive mix of covers (like Jimi Hendrix's "Manic Depression" and Ray Charles' "Here I Am") and originals. Hear them give a preview, live in the Soundcheck studio.
