A Musicial Celebration: Jazz Appreciation Month

Monday, March 31, 2014

April is Jazz Appreciation Month and The Jonathan Channel has put together quite a celebration. This month we turn our focus to—you guessed it—Jazz! Throughout the month Jonathan Schwartz will share his thoughts on jazz; including a few writings, favorites lists and classic jazz recordings. In addition to the music picks of Jonathan Schwartz, guest DJs will drop in to the WNYC studios to share their thoughts on jazz and to play the music that has inspired them.

To kick off the month, the incomparable Dianne Reeves will be stopping by the studio. Tune in Saturday at 4PM and hear this Grammy award-winning artist play a few of her favorite records as well as some tracks from her new album, Beautiful Life

On April 12th and April 19th, standards singer and favorite of Jonathan Schwartz, Maude Maggart will be in the studio, and vocalist Stacy Sullivan takes a break from her Peggy Lee Tribute Show to share her favorite jazz recordings with us. Rounding out the month, pianist/vocalist Champian Fulton will stop in, fresh from her European tour to play her favorite jazz recordings.

What are you favorite jazz recordings? Leave us a comment and let us know!
