Dallas Shooting and the Intersection of Police and Guns

Five Dallas police officers were killed and seven others were wounded Thursday night in a coordinated sniper attack. The violence continued into Friday morning when police killed at least two of the snipers who were in a parking garage. 

The reality of a country awash with guns is that police are going to confront suspects who have both legal and illegal weapons. 

What is the standard protocol for an officer confronting an individual who is carrying a gun? Nick Selby is a detective from Texas and author of In Context: Understanding Police Killings of Unarmed Civilians, will discuss how to survive an encounter with police when you're carrying a licensed weapon.
