How Orwell And Churchill Stood Up To Authoritarianism

The Leonard Lopate Show | May 23, 2017

Thomas Ricks, an adviser on national security at the New America Foundation, joins us to discuss his book, Churchill and Orwell: The Fight for Freedom. Ricks intertwines the lives of Winston Churchill and George Orwell to show how they stood up against authoritarianism in the 1930s and 1940s. He examines Churchill’s role in WWII, and Orwell's musings on authority and freedom in works like Animal Farm and 1984.
