How Strangers Can Turn The Elderly Into Prisoners - Legally

The Leonard Lopate Show | Oct 11, 2017

New Yorker staff writer Rachel Aviv joins us to discuss her latest story, “How the Elderly Are Losing Their Rights.” She looks at how the elderly can have their lives and assets seized by unrelated guardians. These guardians can control their lives, limiting their contact with friends and relatives, while profiting off of their estates. Aviv is joined by Terry Williams, whose father's estate was taken over by strangers after her father died even though she was named executor of his estate. You can read more about Williams' work around guardianship at Citizen4Justice.com
