Seven Things That Made The World Cheap

The Leonard Lopate Show | Nov 8, 2017

Raj Patel, Research Professor in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin, joins us to discuss their latest book A History of the World in Seven Cheap Things: A Guide to Capitalism, Nature, and the Future of the Planet. Co-written with Jason Moore, the book argues that our world is shaped by seven things: nature, money, work, care, food, energy and lives. The two explain how these things have been made cheap and what that means for the world's citizens.

Raj Patel will appear in conversation with Jason W. Moore on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the 92nd St. Y (1395 Lexington Ave., at 92nd St.).
