Guest Picks: Eleni Mandell

Wednesday, January 08, 2014

Eleni Mandell was on the Leonard Lopate Show recently, talking to guest host Andy Borowitz about her new album, "Let's Fly a Kite." She also told us about her 3-year-old son's love of classic country music and her love of eggs. Find out what else she's a fan of!

What have you read or seen over the past year (book, play, film, etc…) that moved or surprised you?

The Orphan Master’s Son by Adam Johnson… I’m in a very smarty pants book club.  I have failed to read our assignments in the past so didn’t want to show up without having read this.  I only had 5 days to read it (it’s big) but could not put it down.  It’s about North Korea and it’s riveting.

What are you listening to right now?

I listen to tons of Classic Country Music.  My son (3yrs) has gotten on board and keeps requesting “Wild and Blue” by John Anderson.  We listen to it over and over, I try and sneak in “Easy Loving” by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, and I’m on a Fleetwood Mac kick

What’s the last great book you read?

The Orphan Master’s Son by Adam Johnson

What’s one thing you’re a fan of that people might not expect?

The Vampire Diaries … Don’t tell!

What’s your favorite comfort food?

         Scrambled eggs… I love eggs!
