Writer Ann Patchett was on the Leonard Lopate Show recently to talk about her latest book, This is the Story of a Happy Marriage. The author, who's also a bookstore owner, told us what she's been reading lately...
What have you read or seen over the past year (book, play, film, etc…) that moved or surprised you?
We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, by Karen Joy Fowler. It starts off funny and fast and turns into such a complicated, moving story.
What are you listening to right now?
Brandi Clark, “Twelve Stories.” I’m not much on country music, but I am completely hooked on this one.
What’s the last great book you read?
I’ve read a lot of great books this year. Along with the Karen Joy Fowler, I’d say James McBride’s The Good Lord Bird, Anthony Marra’s A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, and Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch.
What’s one thing you’re a fan of that people might not expect?
Considering my connection to opera, people may be surprised by my love of Brandi Clark, then again I also like Good ‘n Plenty.
What’s your favorite comfort food?
Pasta. Isn’t it pretty much pasta for all of us?
