Grand Central Terminal Grand Central Terminal (Stephen Nessen/WNYC)

The American Planning Association today announced its 2013 list of great places in America -- and it includes Grand Central Terminal and Newark's Branch Brook Park.

Both Grand Central Terminal and Branch Brook Park made the APA's list of great public spaces -- meaning they do a great job of promoting social activity and community involvement as well as being safe, architecturally interesting and being well maintained.

Grand Central is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Check out some great photos of it here and here.

Meanwhile, across the Hudson River, Branch Brook Park is the centerpiece of the Essex County, New Jersey park system and America's first county park. The park's crown jewel: 4,300 cherry blossoms trees, more than the famous blossoms in Washington D.C.

What do you think should be included in the APA's list? Comment below!

I live in Newark and often visit Branchbrook Park especially during the cherry bloom fest and photograph it. Great article!
