The string quartet known as JACK has made a name for itself – and that name would be JACK, of course – by playing contemporary works, often in unusual settings. Now they’re working with the Le Boeuf Brothers – Remy on sax and Pascal on piano – on a project called imaginist. The album exists at the meeting point between contemporary classical and post-bop jazz, with the Le Boeuf Brothers bringing their own quintet to play with and against the strings of the JACK Quartet. This song is called “Pretenders.”
The JACK quartet and the Le Boeuf Brothers band celebrate their collaborative album with a show tonight at National Sawdust in Brooklyn.
