In the Garden of the North American Martyrs, by Tobias Wolff

Friday, February 21, 2014

Wolff’s story is part of the SELECTED SHORTS program “Determination,” hosted by Jane Kaczmarek and featuring stories with character-testing moments.

“In the Garden of the North American Martyrs” is the title story of Wolff’s 1981 collection, and its profile of a meek academic who goes off the rails after years of careful conformity still packs a punch.  The reader is Jane Curtin.
