Futurism: A Modern Focus

Round and About the Guggenheim | Feb 21, 2014

Marianne Martin, author of Futurist Art and Theory, and Linda Shearer, curator of the new Guggenheim exhibit, speak with host Mimi Poser about the exhibit and the Winston/Malbin collection on which it is based, considered "one of the finest collections of Futurism extant."

Guests try to explain the often "repugnant" (yet sometimes surprising) views of Futurism and its founder,  Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, as well as its uncomfortable connections to Fascism. The aesthetic characteristics of the visual art and its connections with other arts in Italy and Russia are discussed. Why has Futurism been ignored so far? Is it its "anti-artistic" stance?
