Finding Solace On the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail
The Leonard Lopate Show | Sep 10, 2015
On her second night of college, Aspen Matis was raped by a fellow student. Her parents discouraged her from telling of the attack, and her college's "conflict mediation" process was cold. Her desperation growing, she decided to seek healing in hiking the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail leading from Mexico to Canada. She tells the story of her five-month trek in Girl in the Woods: A Memoir.
Events: Aspen Matis will be part of a panel discussion with Daniel Jones, Ryan Harbage, Naomi Rosenblatt and Susan Shapiro The New School Starr Foundation Hall, 63 5th Ave, September 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Aspen Matis will also be reading from her book at St Marks Books, 136 East 3rd Street, September 30 at 7:00 p.m.
