The cinematographer Kirsten Johnson’s work mostly comprises left-leaning documentaries like Laura Poitras’s “Citizenfour” and Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11.” But her latest project, “Camerawoman,” is a departure from politics. The film compiles outtakes from documentaries that Johnson has worked on and footage of Johnson’s twins and her mother, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Johnson joins the New Yorker staff writer Tad Friend in a discussion about what it means to film a subject.
