Expanding the Gun Violence Conversation

On the Media | Jun 24, 2016

The horror and outrage that follow mass shootings tends to steer the gun debate. But does that cloud the larger problem of everyday gun violence in America? Lois Beckett, senior reporter covering gun policy and politics at Guardian US, talks with Deb about how mass shootings -- which make up around 1% of gun deaths in this country -- require vastly different approaches than urban gun violence, but our legislation doesn't always take that into account. Beckett discusses the need for a more holistic conversation about gun violence, the non-policy interventions that have worked, and whether the dramatic sit-in in the House this week is a real turning point.
