What is the European Parliament? That might be a question many American are asking amid reports about the recent elections for seats in that legislative body.

Far right and anti-immigration parties did well in those elections and people who represent that viewpoint will now have a bigger voice in the parliament. But how much does that really matter for a body that has been called a “traveling circus”?

Pieter Cleppe, head of the Brussels office of Open Europe, a think tank that works on issues related to reform of the European Union, discusses the European Parliament with Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson.
