Although she was born in Hungary, Eszter Balint is a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker. She grew up in an avant-garde theater family who performed out of their storefront in midtown. As an actress and a musician, Balint has followed an unconventional path, and her show called I Hate Memory! is what she terms an “anti-musical” full of scenes of New York life in the late 20^th century and featuring songs with a sophisticated, at times noir-ish mix of rock, pop, and folk. Eszter Balint presents the show I Hate Memory! on Jan. 28 at Joe’s Pub.
