Egypt’s “Daily Show” Goes off the Air

When the Arab Spring swept into Egypt, in early 2011, Bassem Youssef (the author of “Revolution for Dummies”) was a surgeon in Cairo. By the end of that year, he was the star of a satirical national news show, and he led the first wave of open political satire in Egypt. As a result, he was inundated by death threats, subjected to repeated interrogations, and, finally, fled the country.
