Limning the same borders between and across genres as New Sounds, the Ecstatic Music Festival is an entire series of adventurous commissions & collaborations between artists with different musical backgrounds.  The Ecstatic Music Festival is now in its fourth season at the Kaufman Center and brings together all sorts myriad influences, resulting in brilliant and ambitious musical chimeras, inhabiting the space between and across the traditions from which they originated. 3/13/2014 – Bang on a Can PCF Concert

On Thursday March 13, 2014, New Sounds Live and the Ecstatic Music Festival present the Bang on a Can People’s Commissioning Fund Concert with works by Alvin Lucier, Richard Reed Parry, and Daniel Wohl, in addition to a performance of David Lang’s haunting "death speaks" featuring the Bang on a Can All-Stars with special guest Shara WordenThe performance is at 7:30PM and will be streamed live on Q2 Music.

3/19/2014– Timo Andres, Gabriel Kahane, Ted Hearne, Becca Stevens, Nathan Koci

Hear the new “work songs” by composer/pianist Timo Andres on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.  Specifically created for fellow rising-star composers and multi-instrumentalists Gabriel Kahane, Ted Hearne, Becca Stevens and Nathan Koci, this multi-movement song cycle consists of texts having to do with facets of professions, jobs and labor and was inspired by old fashioned American parlor songs. The performance is at 7:30PM and will be streamed live on Q2 Music.

3/26/2014 – So Percussion, Buke & Gase
Be impressed by the innovative percussion quartet So Percussion with master instrument builders and songsmiths Buke and Gase.  On Wednesday, March 26, experience the premiere of a collaborative work featuring new instruments built by Aron Sanchez from Buke and Gase, alongside So’s regular mess of traditional percussion instruments, electronics, toys and other noise-generating objects, plus Buke and Gase’s homemade instruments including the "buke," a six-string former-baritone ukulele; and the "gase," a guitar-bass hybrid. The performance is at 7:30PM and will be streamed live on Q2 Music.
