What Happens When States Adopt Single Payer Healthcare?

The Leonard Lopate Show | Jun 26, 2017

As part of our ongoing look at healthcare, economist Robert Pollin, distinguished professor and co-director of the Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, talks about the feasibility of a single-payer healthcare system in the U.S. Pollin recently completed an analysis of California’s proposed single payer plan (“Healthy California Single-Payer Health Care Proposal: SB-562”) which showed that it would cut spending on healthcare in the state by 18% and cost tens of billions of dollars less than the state's estimate for the plan. Pollin will explain whether this would be the case in other states, and he’ll examine the pros and cons of single-payer at a national level.
