John Coltrane's Genre-Defying Music

Writer and director John Scheinfeld joins us to discuss his new documentary, “Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary.” The film follows the life of jazz saxophonist and composer John Coltrane. It incorporates performance clips as well as interviews with those who knew the genre-defying artist. The documentary also features Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington, who acts as Coltrane's voice by reading from interviews Coltrane gave to print publications.
“Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary” opens on April 14th at the IFC Center. Director John Scheinfeld will appear for a Q&A on April 14 at 7:35 p.m., on April 15 at 7:35 p.m. alongside Benny Golson, and on April 16 at 2:55 p.m. alongside Dr. Cornel West.
