The intervention of anonymous spies into domestic politics has led to accusations of a silent coup, courtesy of the so-called "deep state." It’s a charge that resonates with those who suspect hidden forces of being the true drivers of American policy. But while the term might have conspiratorial connotations, what it refers to is very real. 

Bob speaks with Michael J. Glennon, Professor of International Law at the Fletcher School at Tufts University and author of National Security and Double Government, about the forces at play -- and the dangers of relying on the security state to rescue an ailing democracy.
