Diving Into The Culture Wars

The Leonard Lopate Show | May 10, 2017

WNYC host Kai Wright and WNYC reporter Amanda Aronczyk join us to discuss the second season of “The United States of Anxiety: Culture Wars.” The new season looks at the people who shaped the way we talk about issues like climate change and immigration, and how they drove their ideas into the mainstream.

"The United States of Anxiety: Culture Wars" is available as a podcast. It also airs every Tuesday on WNYC from 8-9 p.m. until July 4. The broadcast includes a live call-in segment.

The show also wants to hear from listeners! See below:

The classroom is where many of us are first introduced to science. But for climate change — like with evolution or the Big Bang -- kids sometimes learn things that are different from what the vast majority of scientists know. So we want to hear how this plays out in school, how climate science is being taught, and especially — how did you handle it?

PARENTS, has your kid ever gotten a handout saying that the warming we’re seeing is just natural? Has your kid gotten info about climate change that you found, just puzzling?

And TEACHERS, have you been expected to teach info about climate change that was wrong? How’d it go? Have you ever been confronted by students or parents who denied climate change? What did you do?

Tell us. Tweet us with the hashtag #USofAnxiety. Send us a photo of that handout or textbook. Or leave us a voicemail at (844) 745-TALK (that’s 844-745-8255).

And we’ll be sharing some of your stories online and on this show.
