The President, Deutsche Bank, and the Russia Investigation

WNYC News | Jul 20, 2017

Long after most banks wouldn't lend money to Donald Trump,  Deutsche Bank would. Now New York bank regulators are reviewing Deutsche Bank's loans to Trump.

According to an article by the New York Times, "Deutsche Bank has been in contact with federal investigators about the Trump accounts" and will "eventually have to provide information" to Mueller's investigation.

Reporter Ben Protess tells WNYC's Jami Floyd that it's difficult for Mueller to conduct an investigation that doesn't encompass Trump's financial ties.

"There's this perception that a federal investigation could somehow occur in a vacuum, you only look at Russia. And that's just not realistic," says Protess.

The President told the Times on Wednesday that the federal investigation would cross a red line by looking into his family's finances.
