While the Republican president has historically low approval ratings six months into his administration, it’s up to the opposing party to capitalize on that. And so far, Americans don’t think that the Democratic Party is doing all that good of a job.

According to a new ABC News and Washington Post poll, only 37 percent of Americans say that the Democratic Party “stands for something,” while 52 percent say it just stands against Trump.

Indeed, when asked about those numbers and that perception, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley said: “That message is being worked on.”

Bryce Covert, a contributing op-ed writer at The New York Times and a contributor to the New Republic and The Nation, and Sean McElwee, policy analyst at Demos Action, discuss the state of the Democratic Party and whether or not it's in good shape heading into 2018.

This segment is hosted by Todd Zwillich.
