Deadly Memphis House Fire Highlights Safety Concerns Over 'Burglar Bars'

Residents in Memphis, Tennessee are mourning the deaths of nine people — including six children — in a house fire yesterday.

Fire investigators say the home had a working fire alarm. It also had “burglar bars,” or security bars, on some windows and doors. It’s not clear if those inside tried to escape the home, but security bars often can hinder people during an emergency.
