DEA Keeps Medical Marijuana As Schedule I Drug, But Allows More Research Growing

The federal government will continue to classify marijuana as a Schedule I drug, keeping the federal ban on medical marijuana use in place. But the Obama Administration is removing barriers that have limited universities’ marijuana research.

Currently, only the University of Mississippi can cultivate marijuana for medical research, but the Drug Enforcement Administration soon will allow more universities to do so.
