De Blasio's Offending Pizza Fork Up for Auction

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

The fork Mayor Bill de Blasio used to eat pizza at a Staten Island restaurant will be auctioned off for charity.

De Blasio had New Yorkers saying "Mama Mia!" over pictures of him eating pizza with a fork during a stop last Friday at Goodfella's Pizzeria. Co-owner Marc Cosentino bagged the silverware and put it on display for the amusement of patrons.

Scot Cosentino, another co-owner, tells WNYC he's looking to raise money for a good cause, possible on Staten Island, and will hold an auction event at the pizzeria in the next week or so. He's planning to ask for small donations from those who wish to bid, with all the proceeds going to charitable causes.

The mayor has said he gets his knife and fork technique from his Italian ancestors.
