The clock has begun to tick, counting down the minutes until a government shutdown begins.
House Republicans have decided to live with a government shutdown rather than live with the Affordable Care Act, and Democrats have decided to live with a government shutdown rather than live without the Affordable Care Act. The House GOP insist that a bill to keep funding the government include anti-Obamacare amendments, while Democrats in the Senate are just as adamant that it doesn't.
With no compromise and no movement, there's no government. Unless they strike a deal on a spending bill by the end of the day, the government will begin closing shop at 12:01 AM Tuesday. If the two parties can't agree, the government will shutdown for the first time since late 1995.
Joining us to explain the showdown on Capitol Hill is Takeaway Washington Correspondent Todd Zwillich, who has followed the drama straight through the weekend.
