The Ares, a humanoid bipedal robot designed by Chinese college students with fundings from a Shanghai investment company, is displayed during the Conference in Beijing.

Alexander Weinstein, director of the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing, joins us to discuss his debut short story collection, Children of the New World, which looks at unease in the modern world and how our growing dependence on new technologies has changed the shape of society. Stories include a character who works for a company that creates and sells virtual memories, and another character with a robotic brother.

Event: Alexander Weinstein will be at Community Bookstore on November 17th at 7 p.m. in conversation with novelist and critic David Burr Gerrard (143 7th Ave Park Slope, Brooklyn).
