In Debate Buono Comes Back Stronger but Christie Still Leads

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

New Jersey state senator Barbara Buono might be lagging behind Governor Chris Christie in the polls but she didn't back down from him Tuesday night during the candidate's second and last debate.

Even though Buono returned stronger, Christie did not give her an opening in the debate to narrow the gap between them in the race said Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Matt Katz, who sat on the panel of journalists who questioned the candidates.

“That was the strategy from their camp going in: Do no harm,” Katz said. “The latest poll had them up 24 points. The last thing you want to do is raise any doubts among those Democrats and their dependents.”
