Pianist Bruce Brubaker wanted to play the music of Brian Eno. But Eno’s ambient music was built around tape loops, electronics, and studio trickery. So Brubaker devised a way to turn the piano into what he refers to as a “supernatural synthesizer,” using electromagnets to bow the strings inside the instrument and using spatialization technology. The result is a project called  “Eno Piano”. Bruce Brubaker plays music by Eno and by Philip Glass on Feb. 12 at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, in a New Sounds Live collaboration.
