Bodega Cats In Their Own Words: Farewell to Wolverine

Wolverine the bodega cat passed away shortly after Election Day.

Wolverine, the bodega cat known throughout his Brooklyn neighborhood for wearing a tiny Golden State Warriors jersey, was found dead shortly after Election Day. He was saved from death row 7 years ago and immediately began work as a bodega cat on Butler Street in Brooklyn.

Wolverine's boss Ruben had recently sold the bodega and Wolverine was hanging out on Butler Street until he could move in to Ruben's new store. Before that could happen, Wolverine's lifeless body was found lying on the sidewalk. The cause of death is unknown.

"I'm really going to miss him," Ruben said. "He was more than just a cat. I always joked that he was a lion in a past life."

Wolverine loved sitting in the doorway of his store, surveying his neighborhood. He told WNYC's "Bodega Cats in Their Own Words" that life was like "taking that last minute shot... and in my case, I made it!"
