Described as the third in a series presented by City College on the general subject "The Democracies will Win." Today's speech is titled "The Tools of Victory: Man power and machine power." The speaker is Bernhard Ostrolenk of the Department of Economics at City College.
He notes the president's achievements toward defense in 1941. Despite fifth columnists and isolationist there were great strides in industrial preparation. Now, in 1942, the United States has quickened the pace and is in an "all out defense program." Ostrolenk notes the many ways the US has prepared: he notes the great defense expenditures - expected to soon be a billion dollars a week. Likewise, imports of essential raw materials has increased notably. Aircraft production has also increased 20% in the past five years, while technological advances have been made.
The Navy has grown, as has the tool industry.
Budgets have eliminated new building construction, food production has also increased dramatically.
