Composer, performer, producer, and inventor of the mutantrumpet, Ben Neill, presents music from his project "Manitoga" for this New Sounds program. "Manitoga" is a new environmental composition for mutantrumpet, a hybrid electro-acoustic instrument, and a 8-piece brass ensemble of Carol Szymanski’s “phonemophones”  bugles, each of which forms a letter of the alphabet in a font of her design. (The horns used are the letters in the word MANITOGA, the name of the estate of the 20th-century industrial designer Russell Wright.) Neill’s mutantrumpet will act as the controller for processing the other instruments along with sounds of the environment.
