In this special, week-long series from On Being: delving into new wisdom about the complex mysteries of the universe... and how science is informing what it means to be human.
Host Krista Tippett speaks with astronomer Natalie Batalha about the hunt for exoplanets -- Earth-sized planets beyond our solar system that might harbor life.
Batalha works with the Kepler Mission at NASA, searching among millions of stars that emit "compelling signals" in the range of Kepler's space telescope. For her, it’s only a matter of time -- a when, not an if -- that we discover planets where we know life exists.
She talks about unexpected connections between things like love and dark energy, science and gratitude, and how "exploring the heavens" brings the beauty of the cosmos and the exuberance of scientific discovery closer to us all.
"Exoplanets and Love" is the third episode in a series from On Being called "Science On Human Frontiers." You can hear it each night at 9pm on 93.9FM, WNYC.
