The jazz standard, "Basin Street Blues" was written in 1926 by pianist and composer Spencer Williams. Williams named the song after the New Orleans street he grew up on, which has since been renamed North Saratoga Street. Not an immediate success, the song was later popularized in 1928 when recorded by Louis Armstrong.
