Hear arresting new music for the singular singer Tanya Tagaq and Kronos Quartet by JUNO award-winning Canadian composer Derek Charke on this New Sounds. The epic five movement work has folded the powerful tale of "Sedna", the Inuit goddess who created all living beings, into its delicate center and surrounded it by cracking ice sheets, howling dogs, raven shrieks, and grunting seals; all recorded by Charke on a polar exploration by dog sled, out of the Nunavut capital of Iqaluit on Baffin Island. (Read More.)

Also, hear Arctic ritual music that draws on Inuit throat-singing from Polaris Prize-winning Tanya Tagaq’s record, “Animism.” Then, listen to more wolves on "The Carpathians" by Iceland-based Ben Frost, from his menacing record, “By the Throat.” Plus, “Inngerutit” for clarinet and electronics by Paola Prestini, and music by John Luther Adams.
