Amy Poehler and Ariel Levy

The New Yorker Radio Hour | Apr 1, 2016

Amy Poehler made her début on “Saturday Night Live” in 2001, when Americans weren’t sure they’d ever laugh again. Toward the end of her time on the show, she hit the jackpot, playing Hillary Clinton during the 2008 Presidential election. In a conversation with The New Yorker’s Ariel Levy, Poehler discusses the “S.N.L.” roles that are most dear to her heart, what it’s like doing comedy while nine months pregnant, and why she relates to the do-gooder optimism of Leslie Knope, the minor government official who she played on “Parks and Recreation.” Looking back, she says, she’s exactly where she pictured she would be at this point in her life.
