Doubt Over 'New' Evidence That Amelia Earhart Survived Crash
It was 80 years ago this month that Amelia Earhart's attempt to circumnavigate the globe came to a mysterious end somewhere in the Pacific. And while there's never been the type of hard evidence that would lay to rest the questions surrounding her disappearance, a photo from the National Archives has some people questioning once again if she died in her crash-landing, or if she met her fate another way. An upcoming History Channel documentary explores that alternative narrative.
But Amelia Earhart expert Ric Gillespie, the executive director of TIGHAR, (The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery,) and author of "Finding Amelia: The True Story of the Earhart Disappearance," cautions against rewriting Earhart history. He joins The Takeaway to help sort through the facts and fiction.
This segment is hosted by Todd Zwillich.
