Amayo at Brooklyn Bowl

Amayo (formerly of Antibalas) at Brooklyn Bowl
Jan. 29. 8PM. $35.65

The Nigerian-born, New York-based singer Amayo was for a long time the frontman for the essential New York Afrobeat orchestra known as Antibalas. Now he’s out on his own, if by “on his own” you mean still playing with a big band. In Amayo’s case, that band mixes the sounds of 1970s Nigerian funk with jazzy horns and his own high energy performances, inspired as much by his Kung Fu practice as it is by his family’s rich spiritual and musical heritage. Amayo and his band play on Jan. 29 at Brooklyn Bowl.
