All summer, WNYC is exploring the idea of waiting: why we do it and what it says about us. It's part of an occasional series we're calling "The Wait: How New Yorkers Spend Time When Time Stands Still".

To kick things off, we headed out to capture the myriad moments of waiting that take place across the city everyday. Some are simple and fleeting; others are drawn out and profound.
