Against All Odds, an Interracial Couple Prevails In "A United Kingdom"

The Leonard Lopate Show | Feb 7, 2017

Director Amma Asante and actor David Oyelowo join us to discuss their new film, “A United Kingdom,” based on the true story of Sir Seretse Khama, the first president of Botswana, and his wife Ruth Williams Khama. Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike star as an interracial couple whose relationship was condemned by their families as well as the British and South African governments in 1948. Seretse and Ruth must defy family, apartheid and the British empire to return from a forced exile, and assume power in Botswana after independence.

"A United Kingdom" opens, in New York, on Friday, February 10th at AMC Lincoln Square, Cinemas 1,2,3 and the Angelika. For more information, click here.
