In Charlottesville, Brutality Takes to the Streets at White Supremacist Rally

Unite the Right, a white supremacist group, gathered in Charlottesville, Virginia this weekend to protest the planned removal of a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Counter-protesters turned out, and the rally turned violent. At least 19 were injured and one woman was killed when a man associated with the white supremacists drove his car into a crowd. 

Aryn Frazier was at the protests on Saturday, and watched much of the chaos unfold. She just recently graduated from the local University of Virginia in May, and she is a 2017 Rhodes Scholar. She shares her experience today on The Takeaway. 

On Saturday, Lexington, Kentucky Mayor Jim Gray announced that he will be asking his city council to support a petition calling for the relocation of two confederate statues in Lexington.

According to a statement released by Gray, while he had already been planning to call for the removal, "the tragic events in Charlottesville today have accelerated the announcement I intended to make next week." Mayor Gray joins The Takeaway to discuss the process behind the planned removal of the confederate monuments.
