Advising Iraq

Monday, July 07, 2014

Last month President Obama authorized the deployment of 500 special forces soldiers to train and advise Iraqi security forces in response to ISIS's sweeping advances. Major Jim Gant a former special forces commander, and his wife and war correspondent Ann Scott Tyson, join us to talk about what the advisers will be doing, Gant's unconventional tactics as an adviser, and how they got kicked out of Afghanistan. Ann Scott Tyson is the author of  American Spartan: The Promise, the Mission, and the Betrayal of Special Forces Major Jim Gant (William Morrow, 2014).

Emily Litella,

Sorry. Today is the ninth anniversary of the July, 7, 2005 suicide attack by BRITISH Muslims on London transport (the underground and a bus).

52 civilians were killed and 700 injured. Four British Muslim attackers died in their attack.

I hope that clears things up.

Imagine if American troops were fighting ISIL and dying at this very moment in Iraq. What would be the reaction of the American people toward the president?

The Arab Spring continues to play out. We just need to stay out of the way until the political middle in the mideast gets fed up. Just like with Is' and Pal's, nothing good will happen until the middle stops their left/right fringes from dominating the path forward. It's not much different here in the US except that we decided to fight without violence. Once enough people die, those in the mideast will find their MLK, too.

@ Ed from Washington Heights: My friend Richard Feder in Fort Lee NJ is always writing me about those "Mritish Muslims" -- he even thinks they may be responsible for the local traffic jams.

Oh, typo? Never mind. (with apologies to the great Gilda Radner)

Today is the 9th anniversary of the July 7, 2005 bombing of London transport by British Muslims.

Today Mritish Muslims are one group joining up with ISIS in Iraq - and learning techniques and strategies that they can bring home.

Someone needs to oil squeaky microphone arm or chair in the studio. I'm listening to the show on my phone and can still hear it.
