Touring the Neighborhood
Saturday, March 07, 2009 - 11:30 AM
As the new Rookies intern (and former Rookie myself) I had the pleasure of accompanying AJ, Keith and Courtney for a small tour of the neighborhood. We walked down 172nd street away from the elevated 5 & 2 train lines in search of possible interviewees.
Two bodegas later, we stumbled upon a video store. The place is bright and colorful, definitely not a place for somber people or those sensitive to light. Photos of the owner with figures such as Mayor Giuliani cover the walls while rows of neatly lined DVDs filled the interior. Keith and AJ interviewed the enthusiastic owner about the neighborhood's past.
Although the winds were terribly bitter, the kind that makes your skin tingle and feel like little teeth are gnawing at your face, we made it back to the community center before the full setting of the sun.
