Police Investigating: Failed Tasering Ends in Shooting

Police say they are investigating a shooting on Sunday involving four officers and a 24-year-old man in Upper Manhattan.

Police responded to a 911 call and confronted Emmanuel Paulino, who was wielding a knife. Nine witnesses told investigators that Paulino charged at officers, despite repeated commands to stop and drop the knife.

Police first attempted to use a taser against Paulino, but police say Paulino pulled the prongs out of his body. The police then opened fire. Nine shots were fired in total.

The president of the organization Hispanics Across America held a vigil for Paulino Sunday night in front of his home. He said that the incident could have been avoided.
